Act

Swap your car for a bike, walk or bus just one day a week…
…and save 237kg of CO2 per year!
This is one of the top-5 high-impact climate actions you can take!
Nearly a fifth (18.5%) of our combined share of climate heating in Aotearoa is from the petrol and diesel burned in our transport – and 62% of this is passenger transport like cars and utes.
If everyone in New Zealand replaced 1 out of every 5 car trips with a bike or walk, we would save 1.3 million tonnes of CO2 every year – that is the total annual GHG emissions of our Pacific neighbours, except Fiji, combined!
And taking a bus, biking or walking can also save money, get us and our tāmariki fitter, and often beat any gridlock too
Act now! Take the challenge!
✨✨ Enter your details to take the challenge to bike, walk, or use public transport at least once every week this month and join our Science Panel, and many workplaces and people across Aotearoa who are helping to limit global heating ✨✨

Make it structural

Tell your Council, talk to your employer!
Not everyone can catch a bus, or safely walk or bike, especially in our rural areas. But at Climate Club, we say everyone does deserve a choice. If you agree, tell your Council you want the choice. Find your Council contact for active transport here and feel free to copy the handy email template there!
Talk to your employer about how they can help. Can you make the Nelson Swap One model work in your district?
In Nelson in 2025, the top 10 companies, who together employ 1 in 10 of the city’s workforce, mucked in to make it easier for their employees to bike or bus. Thanks to Businesses for Climate Action, Mission Zero, and the people and top companies of Whakatū Nelson for showing how we can all do a bit to help with their Swap One commute. “This is proof of what can happen when community, business, and data come together”, said Florence van Dyke, Director, Mission Zero
